Berry Sauce

Jam and fruit syrup both have their own very special places in my heart, but this berry sauce perfectly walks the line between the two categories. It has all of the wonderful flavor and textural contrast of a traditional jam without being too thick to use as a drizzle. I love to put this over toast with a smudge of nut butter and fruit, stir it into oatmeal and smoothies, and drizzle it overtop of pancakes. My latest addiction has been to use this in the base of my very berry chia seed pudding (recipe coming soon!).
Ingredients
2 cups mixed berries, fresh or frozen
1 cup water
2 tbsp maple syrup or agave nectar
fresh juice of ½ lime
Instructions
Add berries, sweetener and water to a saucepan (uncovered) and bring to a boil.
Reduce to a simmer for 40 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent anything from sticking to the bottom.
Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the lime juice. Transfer the berry sauce to a sealable container and, while uncovered, let it cool and thicken at room temperature. Store covered in the refrigerator.
