Iced Matcha Latte
I've got to be honest with you. Nothing says millennial-in-summertime more than an iced matcha latte, but this delicious drink really is for everyone. While matcha has been super trendy in the western world for the past few years, eastern cultures have been utilizing the powerful benefits of it for a very long time.
Matcha is a powder made from grinding special green tea leaves. I had my first taste of it about 12 years ago as I prepared for a trip to Japan as a People-to-People student ambassador. While in Japan, I group had the opportunity to visit a tea farm, harvest tea leaves, learn more about the matcha production process, and participate in a traditional tea ceremony at a tea house.
Widely acknowledged as energy-boosting, antioxidant-rich, and health-promoting, matcha has made its way into the mainstream health & wellness world and I couldn't be happier. Whether you drink it for its health benefits, cultural significance or just to be trendy, incorporating matcha into your daily life can lead to positive mental and physical changes.
As an avid drinker of tea and tea lattes, I try to keep my tea-based recipes simple, flavorful & functional. This iced matcha latte definitely checks all of those boxes. Start to finish, you'll be sipping on this green delight in about 3 minutes and thanking yourself for making this beauty at home. I do love a good cafe but my wallet surely doesn't love $5 cups that could easily be made at home using fool-proof methods. Trust me, you need to get in the kitchen and try this one now!
1 tsp matcha powder
¾ cup almond milk or any plant milk (see note below for coconut milk)
2 cups water
¼ tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp agave nectar or other sweetener
Add all ingredients to a blender. Blend until well incorporated and a layer of foam forms on top of the liquid.
Pour over ice in a glass and enjoy!
If using full-fat coconut milk in this recipe, thin it out by using ⅜ cup coconut milk and ⅜ cup water. You'll have a ¾ cup mixture of full-fat coconut milk and water. If using reduced fat coconut milk, proceed as usual with instructions.
